A 91-year-old Ashland man was found dead Wednesday afternoon inside a heavily damaged vehicle that had apparently been off the roadway for some time, according to Canton police.
Police said a passerby spotted the vehicle around 3:10 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 14, in a wooded area just south of the U.S. Route 30 eastbound exit ramp to northbound Trump Avenue.
The vehicle, identified as a yellow Hyundai Veloster, was found on its side with considerable damage. Police said the vehicle had blended into the surrounding woods and ground foliage, making it difficult to see from the roadway.
Officers discovered the 91-year-old man deceased inside the vehicle. Authorities believe he had been dead for some time before the vehicle was discovered.
The Stark County Coroner’s Office responded to the scene to investigate.
Police have not released the man’s identity or indicated how long the vehicle may have been in the wooded area.
The circumstances surrounding the crash and the man’s death remain under investigation by the Canton Police Department.
