A Tuscarawas County man with 10 previous convictions for operating a vehicle under the influence has been charged with his 11th OVI offense following a crash in Gnadenhutten, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Arthur L. Everett Jr., 59, of Gnadenhutten, was arrested after troopers said he drove off the roadway, struck a mailbox and fled the scene Sept. 28.

According to a news release from the Highway Patrol, Everett was driving a 2017 Ford Escape westbound on East Main Street near Elm Street around 8 p.m. when the vehicle went off the right side of the road and struck the mailbox.

Troopers said Everett left the scene but was later located at his residence, where he was arrested.

Authorities said Everett has 10 prior OVI convictions dating from 1985 to 2008, including felony OVI convictions in 2002 and 2008.

If convicted of the latest charge, it would mark his 11th OVI conviction.

Everett faces charges of operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs, hit-skip, driving under suspension and failure to control.

The charges have been filed through Tuscarawas County Common Pleas Court pending grand jury proceedings.

The Highway Patrol is reminding motorists to report suspected impaired drivers by calling #677 or 911.
