A late-night fire at the MAPS Air Museum destroyed a Vietnam-era medical tent and caused minimal damage to an adjacent hangar, according to the Green Fire Department.

The blaze was first reported at 11:15 p.m. by the Akron-Canton Airport tower, Green Fire Public Information Officer Jeremy Chambers said in a phone interview Tuesday. The Akron-Canton Crash Fire Rescue team was first to arrive, with Green Fire crews following. Additional departments were alerted but later canceled after a quick knockdown, Chambers said.

Firefighters remained on scene for about an hour and a half, clearing shortly after 12:40 a.m. The medical tent was a total loss. Damage to the museum’s main hangar was described as minimal.

The cause remains under investigation, and no determination has been made. Chambers said nothing suspicious had been found as of Tuesday morning. He added that portions of the museum grounds in the rear may be closed while investigators work.

Chambers said the department expects to issue a press release with additional details. The museum’s operating status for the day was uncertain.

Further information will be provided as it is released by officials.
