The Tuscarawas County Coroner’s Office has identified the man found dead after a motor home fire in Dover Township as Samuel Crawford, 38, of Massillon.
Crawford’s body was discovered Friday morning after firefighters extinguished a blaze on Von Kaenel Drive. His remains were taken to the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office for autopsy.
According to Tuscarawas County Sheriff Orvis L. Campbell, deputies and fire crews were dispatched around 11:38 a.m. Friday after neighbors reported the motor home was fully engulfed in flames and believed someone might be inside.
Fire departments from Dover, New Philadelphia, Strasburg, Bolivar, Mineral City and Sugarcreek responded, along with Smith Ambulance. Investigators from the sheriff’s office, the Ohio State Fire Marshal’s Office, and the county coroner also assisted at the scene.
Once the fire was out, investigators discovered the remains of one person and a dog inside the burned vehicle.
Authorities say the cause and origin of the fire have not yet been determined, though foul play is not suspected. The incident remains under investigation.
