Fairless turned a season-opening showdown into a statement Thursday night, scoring 50 unanswered points to rout Sandy Valley 50-13 at Brideweser Stadium.
After Sandy Valley quarterback Caleb Deubner capped a 62-yard drive with a 6-yard touchdown pass to Gino Tozzi for an early 7-0 lead, it was all Falcons the rest of the way.
Cam Carl provided the immediate spark, taking the ensuing kickoff 96 yards to the house. Although the extra point was blocked, the return tied the game’s momentum and set up a dominant night for the Falcons.
Quarterback Mikey Ritterbeck gave Fairless the lead for good with a 12-yard scoring run in the second quarter before hitting Aidan Wise for the two-point conversion to make it 14-7. Jack Kirby added an 8-yard touchdown run in the final minute of the half after a Sandy Valley fumble, giving Fairless a 21-7 edge at the break.
The Falcons kept rolling in the second half. Zach Gilkerson opened the third quarter with Fairless’ second special teams touchdown of the night on a kickoff return, and Carl’s second touchdown — a 20-yard run — extended the lead to 35-7. Kirby’s 38-yard score and Troy McVicker’s 3-yard run pushed the lead to 50-7, forcing a running clock.
Sandy Valley backup quarterback Liam Fetty added a late 8-yard touchdown run, but the game had long been decided.
Fairless (1-0) will look to carry its momentum into Week 2, while Sandy Valley (0-1) seeks to regroup after the lopsided loss.
