The New Philadelphia Highway Patrol Post is investigating a three-vehicle crash on Interstate 77 that left one person dead and several others injured.
The crash happened at 2:18 p.m. Aug. 21 near milepost 63 in Oxford Township.
According to troopers, a silver 2010 Honda CR-V was traveling north on I-77 when it crossed the median into the southbound lanes. The CR-V struck a white Ford F-150 in the left lane, causing the truck to drive off the left side of the road and overturn.
The CR-V then spun into the right lane, colliding with a blue 2022 Ram 1500 traveling south. Both vehicles went off the right side of the road and hit a guardrail.
The driver of the Ford F-150, the driver of the Ram 1500 and four passengers in the Ram were taken to Southeastern Ohio Regional Medical Center in Cambridge with minor injuries. The driver of the CR-V was pronounced dead at the scene by the Tuscarawas County Coroner’s Office.
The Ohio Department of Transportation assisted with road closures and traffic control. Multiple agencies responded to the scene, including the Tuscarawas County Sheriff’s Office, Newcomerstown EMS, Tri-County EMS, the coroner’s office, and several towing companies.
Troopers said drugs and alcohol are believed to be factors in the crash. The investigation remains ongoing.
Jordan Miller News will release the name of the deceased once enough time has passed following the accident.
