Editor’s note: An earlier version of this story misstated which driver was injured and airlifted. The driver of the Hyundai, who was not wearing a seat belt, sustained incapacitating injuries and was flown to Akron General Hospital. The driver of the Ford suffered minor injuries. The story has been corrected to reflect this.

The Canton Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a crash that left one person seriously injured Thursday evening in Nimishillen Township.

Troopers said the crash happened around 5:55 p.m. on U.S. Route 62 at Beech Street in Stark County. A Ford F-350 truck was traveling northwest on Beech Street and stopped at the intersection of U.S. 62 before pulling out in front of an eastbound Hyundai Sonata, investigators said.

The Hyundai struck the Ford on the driver’s side door. The driver of the Hyundai was not wearing a seat belt and sustained incapacitating injuries. That driver was first taken to Mercy Hospital by Nimishillen Township EMS before being flown to Akron General Hospital for treatment. The driver of the Ford was wearing a seat belt and suffered minor injuries.

The roadway was closed for about two hours as emergency crews worked the scene and investigators collected evidence. The Stark County Sheriff’s Office, Nimishillen Township Fire/EMS, Louisville Fire/EMS, Marlboro Towing, and Luthi’s Towing assisted at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation.

Names of those involved are not being released by Jordan Miller News at this time out of respect for those affected, as this report was published just hours after the crash occurred.
