A New Philadelphia man has died from injuries sustained in a two-vehicle crash Thursday afternoon in Sugarcreek Township, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
Gaspar Cedillo Lopez, 28, was a front-seat passenger in a 2002 Toyota RAV4 involved in the crash on U.S. Route 250. Troopers said he was taken to Aultman Hospital and died Friday, a day after the crash.
The crash occurred at approximately 3:43 p.m. Thursday when the Toyota RAV4, traveling northwest, went left of center and struck a southeastbound 2024 GMC Sierra head-on.
Three of the four occupants in the RAV4 were ejected from the vehicle, and the right-front passenger required extrication by firefighters. Investigators said seat belts were not being used by the occupants of the RAV4.
The driver of the GMC Sierra, Lonnie A. Smith, 31, of Clinton Township, Michigan, sustained minor injuries and was transported to Mercy Hospital.
The driver of the Toyota has not yet been identified.
Beach City Fire/EMS, Wilmot EMS, Strasburg EMS and Tracers Towing assisted at the scene.
The crash remains under investigation by the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
