Stark County boy, 13, dies after skateboard crash with car

A 13-year-old Canton boy has died after being struck by a car Friday evening while riding a skateboard, police said.

Officers responded around 7 p.m. Friday to the 3300 block of Market Avenue North for a reported vehicle crash, according to a news release from the Canton Police Department. Investigators said the juvenile was traveling east on 33rd Street NW and was crossing Market Avenue North on a skateboard when he was hit by a southbound 2019 Honda Civic.

Canton Fire Department medics transported the boy to Cleveland Clinic Mercy Hospital with life-threatening injuries. He was later transferred to Akron Children’s Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.

Police said the Summit County Coroner’s Office notified the department at about 8:30 p.m. Sunday that the juvenile had died from his injuries.

The driver of the Honda was not injured. Authorities said the driver is not suspected of using drugs or alcohol at the time of the crash.

The Canton-Metro Crash Team responded to investigate, and the investigation remains ongoing.

Police identified the victim only as a 13-year-old male from Canton.
