Canton police are investigating a reported terroristic threat made Monday at a local university after an anonymous caller claimed they would come to campus and carry out a shooting.
According to a police report, officers were dispatched around 8:20 a.m. Monday to the university’s Cleveland Avenue Northwest campus after an admissions office employee received a call from an unknown individual. The caller allegedly said their child attended the school, was being bullied and that they had “had enough,” adding they would be at the campus within 10 minutes to “shoot it up.”
The caller was described as sounding calm and serious, police said.
A campus-wide alert was issued shortly after the call was received, placing the university on a hard lockdown and shelter-in-place status. About an hour later, a second alert was sent lifting the lockdown, police said. The university believes the call to be a hoax.
Officers met with campus safety officials upon arrival and conducted a search of the campus. No suspicious activity or threats were located, according to the report.
Investigators later determined the call came from a private or untraceable phone number, police said.
Police said the campus remained under police presence for the remainder of the day as a precaution while detectives continued to investigate the threat. No suspect has been identified, and no injuries were reported.
