Rumors circulating on social media about Immigration and Customs Enforcement activity in North Canton have drawn local attention amid a wave of national debate over federal immigration enforcement, according to city officials.

North Canton police acknowledged that they have heard reports about possible ICE operations but said the department has not been contacted by any federal officials about enforcement activity in the community. There is no independent confirmation that ICE agents are conducting operations in North Canton, police records show.

The local clarification comes as federal immigration enforcement has been under intense scrutiny in recent weeks following two fatal incidents in Minneapolis, Minnesota, involving federal agents.

On Jan. 7, 2026, a federal immigration agent shot and killed Renée Nicole Good, 37, during an enforcement operation in Minneapolis. The Hennepin County Medical Examiner ruled her death a homicide, and the incident fueled widespread protests and national debate over the use of force by Immigration and Customs Enforcement in the state.

Later in January, on Jan. 24, 2026, federal agents shot and killed Alex Pretti, a 37-year-old Minneapolis resident, during another immigration enforcement encounter. That shooting marked the second fatal use of force by federal immigration officers in the city in the same month and triggered larger demonstrations and calls for accountability.

Those events have sparked protests and confrontations in Minnesota and across the country, with debates over federal immigration policy and enforcement tactics intensifying in recent weeks.

As of now, law enforcement in North Canton reports no confirmed ICE activity in the area. Officials encourage residents to await verified information and not rely on unconfirmed reports.
