The Cleveland Browns are hiring former Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator Todd Monken as their next head coach, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Monken returns to Cleveland after previously serving as the Browns’ offensive coordinator during the 2019 season under head coach Freddie Kitchens. That season marked Kitchens’ lone year leading the franchise and was part of a broader reset for the organization following multiple coaching changes.
Most recently, Monken spent two seasons as offensive coordinator for the Ravens, where he oversaw one of the NFL’s most efficient offenses. Baltimore ranked among the league leaders in scoring and total offense during his tenure, with an emphasis on balance, tempo and quarterback development.
Before joining the Ravens, Monken served as offensive coordinator for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers from 2018 to 2019. While in Tampa Bay, he coordinated a high-powered passing attack that led the NFL in passing yards in 2019 and helped quarterback Jameis Winston throw for more than 5,000 yards.
Monken also brings extensive collegiate coaching experience. He was head coach at Southern Mississippi from 2013 to 2015, inheriting a program facing significant scholarship reductions and rebuilding challenges. Prior to that, he served as offensive coordinator at Oklahoma State from 2011 to 2012, where his offenses ranked among the nation’s best and helped elevate the Cowboys into national prominence.
His earlier coaching career included assistant and coordinator roles at several major programs, including LSU, Georgia, Notre Dame, Oklahoma State and Eastern Michigan. Monken began his coaching career in the early 1990s after a playing career as a wide receiver at Millikin University.
Monken’s résumé spans both the NFL and college football, with experience developing quarterbacks, designing high-scoring offenses and leading programs through rebuilding phases. His return to Cleveland places him back with an organization he is familiar with as the Browns seek long-term stability at head coach.
The Browns have not yet formally announced the hire.
