Firefighters from Brewster and several surrounding departments responded to a structure fire Monday, Jan. 5, at a home in Tuscarawas Township that caused an estimated $200,000 in damage.

The call came in at 12:22 p.m. for a fire at 12501 Millersburg Road SW. The first Brewster Fire Department unit on scene found heavy fire coming from the front of the home, according to Assistant Fire Chief Jeremy Henry, who served as incident commander.

No injuries were reported. The fire was called in by the homeowner.

Mutual aid was provided by North Lawrence Fire, Erie Valley Fire, Dalton Fire, Mount Eaton Fire and Kidron Fire. The Stark County Sheriff’s Office and the Ohio Department of Transportation shut down State Route 241 between U.S. 30 and Barrs Road for approximately five hours while crews worked to suppress the fire.

Henry said firefighters were able to confine the fire primarily to the front of the home and the kitchen area, though it was difficult to extinguish after fire spread behind knee walls on the second floor. Whether the home will be deemed a total loss will ultimately be determined by insurance companies.

Estimated damage to the home and its contents was placed at $200,000. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
