Elderly couple and dog killed in weekend house fire in Green

An elderly couple died Saturday evening after being rescued from a house fire in Green, according to the Green Fire Department.

Firefighters were called to a residential structure fire at approximately 5 p.m. at 3007 Myersville Road. Crews arrived to find a home with occupants trapped inside.

The couple was pulled from the residence by fire personnel and transported to a local hospital, where both later died from their injuries. During the incident, firefighters also located a deceased dog inside the home. Four cats were able to escape the fire.

Two other individuals who live at the residence were not home at the time of the fire.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. The Ohio State Fire Marshal’s Office is leading the investigation with assistance from the Green Fire Department.

Mutual aid was provided by fire departments from Coventry, Greentown, Lakemore, Jackson Township, Springfield Township and Uniontown. The Summit County Sheriff’s Office also responded to the scene.

The American Red Cross assisted the displaced residents following the fire.

Authorities have not released the identities of the victims.
