Police investigate early morning Canton shooting; man shot in both legs

A man was injured in a shooting early Monday morning in southeast Canton, according to police.

Officers were dispatched around 5:45 a.m. Monday to the area of Mill Street Southeast and Allenford Drive Southeast after a report of a shooting. Police said the victim called 911 and reported he had been shot in the legs.

When officers arrived, they found the man lying in the roadway with significant bleeding from gunshot wounds to both legs. Police said the victim told officers he had been shot by an unknown person who then fled the scene. He reported leaving the area in a Chevrolet Traverse before stopping due to his injuries.

Emergency medical personnel treated the man at the scene before transporting him to Aultman Hospital. Police said the victim was conscious but had difficulty answering questions due to pain and shock.

Investigators secured the scene and collected evidence. Due to the amount of evidence and the size of the scene, additional investigative personnel were requested to assist.

No suspect information was immediately available. The shooting remains under investigation.
