A 76-year-old woman housed at the Stark County Jail died Tuesday after suffering an apparent cardiac arrest, according to the Stark County Sheriff’s Office.
The inmate, whose name has not been released, had been incarcerated since June 14 and had a documented history of health issues.
The sheriff’s office said that after a scheduled court appearance Tuesday morning, the woman reported feeling unwell and was taken to the jail’s medical clinic for evaluation. While being treated by clinic staff, she appeared to go into cardiac arrest.

Jail staff immediately began life-saving measures until members of the Canton City Fire Department arrived and took over care. She was transported to Cleveland Clinic Mercy Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
The incident remains under investigation. The Stark County Coroner’s Office will review the cause of death.
