Two East Cleveland police officers were shot late Thursday during separate incidents hours apart, prompting an intense manhunt and heavy police presence through the night.

Mayor Lateek Shabazz said both officers are in stable condition and expected to recover. They were transported to University Hospitals for treatment.

The first shooting occurred around 11 p.m. in the 1900 block of Taylor Road, where officers responded to a reported domestic dispute. One officer was struck in the leg during the response, according to Shabazz.

Roughly two hours later, a second officer was shot near Euclid Avenue, close to a car wash. A large number of officers who had been stationed at the first scene rushed to the second location amid what was described as a “tense” and chaotic environment.

Details regarding the circumstances of the initial call and whether any additional victims were involved have not been released.

Police continue to search for the suspect believed to be responsible for both shootings. The crime scene remains active, with multiple streets shut down and law enforcement drones deployed in the area. Armored vehicles from East Cleveland police, the EDGE task force, and Shaker Heights police were seen overnight.

A press conference is scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday at the mayor’s office to provide further updates.
