A former mayor of Uhrichsville has been indicted on four criminal charges following an investigation by the Ohio Auditor of State’s Office into allegations of improper reimbursements and misuse of city funds.

Mark Haney, who served one term as mayor from 2019 to 2023, was indicted by a Tuscarawas County grand jury on Tuesday. The charges include two felony counts of tampering with records, one felony count of theft in office, and one misdemeanor count of accepting or receiving unlawful compensation.

An arraignment is scheduled for Aug. 13 in Tuscarawas County Common Pleas Court.

The Auditor of State’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) began investigating Haney in January 2024 after receiving a complaint that he had improperly received reimbursements for meals, mileage, and other purchases. The investigation also found that Haney allegedly used city credit cards for personal expenses.

Further details regarding the nature and amount of the alleged improper reimbursements were not immediately released. The case remains under review by the Tuscarawas County Prosecutor’s Office.
