Authorities have identified the 16-year-old girl who died after being pulled from a lake near New Philadelphia as Madison Danley of Canton.

Danley was recovered from the water at Wood’s Tall Timber Resort on Sunday evening after being submerged for an estimated seven to eight minutes, according to the Tuscarawas County Sheriff’s Office.

The cause and manner of death are pending, according to officials with the Summit County Coroner’s Office.

“We ask everyone to keep them in their thoughts and prayers. Out of respect for the family’s privacy, we will not be sharing further details at this time,” Wood’s Tall Timber Resort said in a statement.

Emergency crews were called to the scene around 5:05 p.m. on July 13. Sheriff Orvis Campbell said Danley had been returning from a water trampoline when she went under and did not resurface.

Resort staff, guests, and four on-duty lifeguards quickly began a coordinated search. Volunteers formed a line and entered the lake to assist. Once Danley was found, CPR was administered immediately by a guest and continued by lifeguards, deputies, and New Philadelphia firefighters.

She was flown to Akron Children’s Hospital with a pulse and signs of breathing, but on Monday, the sheriff’s office was notified by the Summit County Medical Examiner’s Office that Danley had died.

“We will be providing all of our information with the Summit County Medical Examiner to assist them with their duties,” Sheriff Campbell said in a statement. “Our thoughts go out to the family.”

The resort announced that its beach and lake areas will remain closed until further notice.
