A shoplifting investigation led to a police pursuit that ended when a vehicle crashed into a Perry Township home Sunday afternoon, according to police.
Perry Township police said officers were called to Goodwill, 5139 Tuscarawas St. W., at approximately 2:02 p.m. Sunday for a report of shoplifting.
The caller told police an unidentified woman had stolen merchandise from the store and was driving a silver Nissan Rogue through the parking lot.
Officers attempted to stop the vehicle and make contact with the driver at approximately 2:08 p.m., but police said the vehicle fled eastbound on Tuscarawas Street, prompting a pursuit.
The pursuit continued south on Bordner Avenue and east on 13th Street SW before the vehicle struck a residence near the intersection of 13th Street and Bordner Avenue SW.
Officers took the driver into custody following the crash.
Fire and emergency medical personnel were called to the scene to evaluate the driver. Police did not immediately release information regarding any injuries or whether anyone was inside the home at the time of the crash.
The suspect’s identity and any charges resulting from the incident have not yet been released.
The incident remains under investigation by the Perry Township Police Department.
