A 21-year-old Robertsville man is facing multiple felony charges after authorities say he fired gunshots following an argument at a local bar late Tuesday night.

The Stark County Sheriff’s Office said deputies were dispatched at 11:06 p.m. Tuesday, July 14, on a report of shots fired in the Robertsville area, a small community between Minerva and East Canton located on U.S. Route 30.

According to investigators, several people became involved in an argument at a local bar. Authorities said the suspect left the scene, later returned with a firearm and fired at a person who was riding an ATV- or UTV-type vehicle at a nearby location outside the bar. Officials note that the shooting did not happen at the bar.

The intended victim was not struck by the gunfire, but investigators said the off-road vehicle was hit by at least one round.

Following an investigation, deputies arrested Richard Nelson, 21, of Robertsville.

Nelson was booked into the Stark County Jail on two counts of aggravated menacing, two counts of felonious assault, one count of criminal damaging and one count of tampering with evidence.

No injuries were reported.

The Stark County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the shooting. It was not immediately clear what led to the initial dispute or whether additional charges could be filed.
