Newly obtained Canton police records provide additional details about the violent stabbing that investigators say preceded a series of police pursuits and an officer-involved shooting that ended with the arrest of a Canton man Tuesday evening in Summit County.

Jordan Miller News obtained the incident report from the Canton Police Department.

According to the report, officers were dispatched around 6 a.m. Tuesday to a home in the 1500 block of 15th Street SW after a 911 caller reported her daughter had been stabbed by her boyfriend. The caller also told dispatchers the victim and the suspect share a child together.

When officers arrived, they found an adult woman in an upstairs bedroom suffering from multiple stab wounds. Police said a knife remained lodged in the victim’s right arm due to the severity of her injuries. Officers immediately began life-saving measures until emergency medical personnel arrived.

Investigators said officers also found a second knife covered in blood in an adjacent upstairs bedroom. Additional blood evidence was discovered throughout the home, including a blood trail that led from the basement, through an open garage and into the driveway before ending, leading investigators to believe the suspect had fled in a vehicle.

According to the report, the victim’s mother told officers her daughter had argued with her boyfriend before the stabbing and identified him as Julius Edwards.

While officers were still at the scene, police said a man’s voice came through the home’s Ring doorbell camera stating that he wanted to kill the victim and believed he had done so. According to the report, the man identified himself as Julius Edwards.

A records search later identified the suspect as Julius Chemar Barret Edwards, and investigators determined his booking photograph matched the description provided by witnesses inside the home.

Edwards, 39, was later identified by the Ohio State Highway Patrol as the suspect wanted in connection with the Canton attempted murder investigation.

According to the patrol, Edwards fled from Canton police and the U.S. Marshals Service before leading authorities on multiple pursuits in Summit County. Investigators said he later crashed into another vehicle in Hudson, fled on foot, allegedly fired at a state trooper during an officer-involved shooting, carjacked a minivan, then led officers on a second pursuit before crashing into a Summit Metro Parks police cruiser in Stow.

Edwards was taken into custody without further incident after attempting to flee on foot.

The stabbing, the officer-involved shooting and the subsequent pursuits remain under investigation.
