The Alliance Police Department is warning residents about a serial prowler who has repeatedly targeted elderly women in the city, saying investigators are concerned the suspect’s behavior is escalating and could lead to a violent crime.
In a public safety alert issued Sunday, June 28, police said the suspect typically approaches homes or apartments through back windows or patio doors during overnight hours and displays pornographic images or videos on a cellphone or tablet to victims before fleeing on foot.
Authorities said the suspect has gone beyond voyeuristic behavior in at least three incidents by entering victims’ homes after cutting window screens or climbing through unlocked windows.
While no physical assaults have been reported, investigators said they are increasingly concerned by the progression of the incidents.
“Although no violence has occurred yet from these entries, there is definitely a pattern of escalation emerging from the incidents, and we are fearful that the suspect may sexually assault or otherwise harm one of these victims,” the department said.
Police said many victims either do not immediately report the incidents or wait 10 to 15 minutes before calling, allowing the suspect time to escape.
Investigators said the prowler primarily targets neighborhoods with larger elderly populations between 9 p.m. and 3 a.m. Areas where incidents have occurred include Tanglewood Avenue, Ansley Street, Camalak Street, Klinger Avenue, Johnson Avenue, Patriots Path and Mill Circle, though police indicated the list is not exhaustive.
The suspect has been described as a Black male in his mid-20s, standing between 5 feet, 5 inches and 5 feet, 9 inches tall. Victims told police he typically wears a hoodie or baseball cap to conceal his identity and gloves.
Police are urging anyone who encounters the suspect to call 911 immediately and, if possible, avoid alerting him that law enforcement has been contacted. Residents are also encouraged to note the direction the suspect travels if he flees.
The department is advising residents to ensure security cameras are functioning, install motion-activated lighting if possible, and keep all ground-level windows closed and locked.
Police also encouraged family members to share the warning with elderly relatives who may not use social media.
Anyone with information about the incidents may submit an anonymous tip through the Alliance Police Department’s online tip form.
