In the early hours of Monday morning, a tragic event unfolded as the Alliance Fire Department responded to a structure fire in the 300 block of N Lincoln Ave.
Dispatched around 1:30 a.m., the call indicated a potential resident trapped within the burning building. Upon arrival, firefighters encountered flames at the front of the house along with pervasive smoke and intense heat throughout the structure.
Alliance Fire personnel deployed hose lines to both the front and back areas of the home, leading to the discovery of a victim inside. Extensive rescue efforts followed, including the initiation of CPR and the use of advanced life-saving equipment such as the Lucas machine and a heart monitor.
Despite the response, the victim, identified as 74-year-old Daisy S. Sharkey, succumbed to injuries sustained from the fire’s smoke and heat.
The state fire marshal is actively investigating the cause of the fire.
