The Ohio State Highway Patrol is currently investigating a tragic two-vehicle collision that resulted in the death of one individual on Interstate 77 near milepost 80 in Dover Township, Tuscarawas County.
According to authorities, the incident occurred on Tuesday, April 2, 2024, around 2:38 p.m. Reports indicate that a gray 2014 Honda Civic was heading southbound on Interstate 77, just south of the US 250 interchange.
The Honda utilized the emergency crossover in the median to execute a U-turn, proceeding northbound on Interstate 77. Tragically, the Honda was struck on the right rear side by a white 2024 Toyota Rav4 traveling northbound in the right lane on Interstate 77. Officials say the Honda veered off the right side of the road, colliding with a ditch, before coming to a stop in a body of water.
The Honda was being driven by Doris Webber, an 86-year-old resident of Strasburg, Ohio. Emergency services rushed her to Union Hospital via the New Philadelphia Fire Department, where she was later pronounced deceased. The Toyota was operated by Tammy Miller, a 66-year-old from Newcomerstown, Ohio, who sustained minor injuries and was transported to Mercy Hospital by Smith Ambulance.
Responders from the New Philadelphia Fire Department, Smith Ambulance, Chad’s Towing, and Performance Towing provided their assistance.
Investigators have ruled out alcohol as a contributing factor in the crash and confirmed that both drivers were wearing seatbelts at the time of the collision.
