For the first time in 18 years, the Lake Local school district has passed a new levy that will keep

Issue 22 passed in Stark County by a narrow vote of 4,155-3,599 – passing by just 556 votes, unofficially.

There have been two recent attempts to pass a levy for the school district, but they have fallen flat each time.

The current 9.5 mill levy that just passed is smaller than the November attempt that lost narrowly, and it’s slated to raise $6.1 million per year for five years. This will impact homeowners by imposing a $333 tax increase per $100,000 of a home’s appraised value.

Had Issue 22 not passed, the district would have had to cut over 40 positions within the district, including over 20 teacher positions and 20 bus drivers. In addition to a large number of jobs being cut, if Issue 22 had failed, arts and music education at the elementary level would have ended as well.
