16-year-old arrested, charged in shooting that killed 47-year-old man

The Akron Police Department reported that at approximately 11:24 p.m. Friday, officers responded to the 800 block of E. Wilbeth Road for a shooting incident. Upon arrival, authorities discovered a 47-year-old male with a gunshot wound to the torso. Despite administering emergency first aid, the victim succumbed to his injuries after being transported to Summa Health Akron City Hospital.

The victim’s identity has not been disclosed pending notification of next of kin and ongoing investigations.

During the initial phases of the inquiry, investigators identified a 16-year-old male connected to the fatal shooting. Acting on leads, authorities apprehended the teenager around 11:30 a.m. Saturday at a residence in the 1000 block of S. Arlington Street without any issues. A handgun and additional evidence were retrieved from the location.

The juvenile suspect was subsequently taken to the Summit County Juvenile Detention Facility, where he faces a felonious assault charge. Further charges are anticipated as the investigation progresses, with murder-related charges likely to be filed in relation to the incident.

Detectives determined that the victim was shot during an altercation with the teenager based on the information gathered during the investigation.

Initial reports suggest the shooting took place in the 1300 block of S. Arlington Street, with the victim later found on E. Wilbeth Road.
