On November 29, 2023, at 9:28 p.m., the Columbiana County Sheriff’s Office responded to a distress call reporting a shooting incident on Carey Road. Upon arrival at the scene in Butler Township, deputies discovered Michelle Long, a 50-year-old woman, who had succumbed to an apparent gunshot wound.
Local authorities initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident. The Columbiana County Sheriff’s Office Detectives took charge of the case, receiving collaborative support from the Columbiana County Prosecutor’s Office, Coroner’s Office, and the Bureau of Criminal Investigation and Identification (BCI & I). The nature of the investigation indicates a homicide, and a person of interest has been identified.
Long was an educator at Leetonia High School, where she dedicated her skills to teaching Mathematics, STEM, and Industry-related subjects.
