A distressing incident unfolded just before 7:00 p.m. in Akron, as local authorities responded to reports of both a structure fire and gunshots at a residence in the 500 block of Lansing Road. Akron Police and Akron Fire converged on the scene, met with an active fire.
As officers approached the residence, they discovered an unresponsive adult female lying in the driveway, bearing a gunshot wound. She was already dead, according to officials. Her identity remains undisclosed at this time, pending notification of her next of kin and ongoing investigation.
In a coordinated effort, officers employed the newly acquired Community Rescue Vehicle to safely remove the deceased woman’s body. This same vehicle was later used to aid firefighters in dousing the small but active fire that continued to rage.
At this juncture, the status of anyone inside the residence remains unknown. Following the complete extinguishment of the fire, law enforcement and fire personnel will conduct a thorough search of the premises. The exact circumstances surrounding the woman’s death remain shrouded in uncertainty.
Initial reports suggest that multiple gunshots were heard in the vicinity of the residence in the moments leading up to this tragic incident. The incident is still an active scene, and the police and fire departments are in the nascent stages of their joint investigations.
As of now, no additional information is available, but updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.
