A school bus operated by the Marlington Local School District was involved in a single-vehicle accident just before 2:45 p.m. on Monday, leaving multiple individuals, including students and the bus driver, with injuries.
The incident occurred at the intersection of Columbus Road and Beeson Street.
According to reports from the Ohio State Highway Patrol, six people, including five students and the bus driver, were transported to nearby hospitals for medical evaluation and treatment. Fortunately, most of the injuries sustained in the accident are believed to be minor. At the time of the incident, the bus was carrying a total of 19 individuals when it unexpectedly overturned during a left turn.
The circumstances surrounding the accident are currently under investigation, with officials stating that the bus had been traveling west on Beeson Street before attempting a left turn to head southwest onto Columbus Road NE, near the intersection of Reeder Avenue NE. It was during this maneuver that the bus overturned and rolled over.
“The bus driver obviously was going too fast for that turn and served a little late,” Sergeant Brian Sponaugle of the Ohio State Highway Patrol said.
The students on board the bus, a mix of junior high and high school students, all attend Marlington schools.
