East Canton’s Holland, Marlington boys win state titles; Minerva girls place 4th, boys 11th

Local athletes represented well at the OHSAA State Cross-Country Championships at Fortess Obetz.

East Canton senior won the Division III boys title with a time of 15:41.7, finishing nine seconds ahead of the competition.

The Minerva girls cross-country team placed fourth as a team, scoring 188 points. The Lady Lions won the Division II girls title in 2021.

The Lady Lions were led by senior Hera Hoffee who finished fifth with a time of 18:42.2. Caitlyn Hopple placed 49th with a time of 20:10.3.

Annabelle Crissman and Kayla Crissman placed 72nd (20:31.7) and 78th (20:36.2), respectively. Minerva’s Hannah Ison placed 98th with a time of 20:52.9.

Finishing in 109th place was Katie Ison with a time of 21:06.9. Freshman Gabby Lupshu rounded out the scoring for the Lions with a time of 21:37.8 (133rd).

The Minerva boys cross-country team placed 11th as a team with 357 points.

Minerva sophomore Grasyn Rettig led the Lions with a 17th place finish and time of 16:24.5.

Mason Steele ran a time of 17:13.4 to place 68th followed by Rowan Hoffee who finished 125th (17:54.0).

Sophomore Ryan Cassidy placed 136th with a time of 17:57.1. Brandon Davis (165th) and Owen Yoder (167th) finished close to each other, with times of 18:47.2 and 18:52.1. Xander Cox placed 178th with a time of 19:54.8.

The Marlington boys team defended their Division II title with 56 points, defeating second-place Carroll by 93 points.

The Dukes were led by individual state champion Colin Cernansky with a time of 15:26.0.

Marlington senior Nash Minor recorded a time of 15:56.1 for a fourth-place finish. Junior Michael Nicholls placed fifth with a time of 15:57.2.

Logan Citino placed 32nd with a time of 16:40.9 and Cohen Boyce finished with a time of 16:55.6 (45th).

Luke Ryan placed 85th for the Dukes with a time of 17:24.3 and Jase Brock placed 95th (17:30.1).
