Man involved in TimkenSteel explosion dies from injuries 24 days later

A TimkenSteel worker involved in an explosion in late July died late Friday night, according to his wife.

Joe Ferrall, 34, of Alliance, passed away in the Cleveland MetroHealth Medical Center’s Burn Unit as he was treated for injuries sustained in an explosion at the TimkenSteel Faircrest plant July 26.

Ferrall was under sedation and on a ventilator to help heal his severely damaged lungs.

“It is with a heavy heart that I must tell all of you. That Joseph passed away today surrounded by his family and friends,” his wife Amber wrote on social media. “He fought for 24 days and I could not be more proud of him. He will be missed by many.”

Ferrall leaves behind three sons and a wife.

TimkenSteel released the following statement following Ferrall’s passing:

“Our deepest sympathies go out to his family, friends and coworkers. We are supporting our employees with counseling resources.”

Earlier in the summer, TimkenSteel was placed in OHSA’s severe violator enforcement program and fined more than $315,000 for the death of an employee at their Gambrinus facility in December of 2021.
