Woman shot by Akron police after allegedly shooting someone at bar

A woman was shot by an Akron Police officer during a foot chase on Friday.

Officers responded to a shooting that occurred around 3 a.m. on Friday inside the Oasis Bar on North Howard Street. According to Akron police, a 21-year-old woman was shot during an altercation inside the bathroom.

Officers were flagged down by a witness as they arrived on the scene, and were led to a suspect identified as a 21-year-old woman. Officers noted the suspect had a handgun and chased her to a parking lot at the 30 block of East Cuyahoga Falls Avenue. At some point during the encounter, an officer shot the suspect, who was transported to a local hospital.

The officer involved in the shooting – a 2-year veteran – has been placed on paid administrative leave, per departmental procedure.

The shooting victim was reported to be in critical condition, while the suspect was reported to be in stable condition with life-threatening injuries. Their names are currently being withheld by authorities.

The incident remains under investigation.
