A 38-year-old woman was reported to have been at the site of the submergence and escaped the sinking car. According to North Canton Police Sgt. Matthew Buzzard, the woman changed her story at multiple points – also indicating that a male might have been in the car.

The submerged van was found in a pond at the city-owned Arrowhead Golf Club at 1500 Rogwin Circle SW. After a search through local parks and neighboring communities, the woman’s cell phone was pinged, which led authorities to the golf course.

However, authorities found no other potential crash victims at the site of the van, which was registered to the woman and was found with its passenger side door open.

In a follow-up, Sgt. Buzzard stated there were no reported injuries, and that no one was transferred to a medical facility.

The woman at the scene was not charged or cited, but the investigation is ongoing.
