HS Basketball Saturday: Hiland, TCC, Tusky Valley among IVC girls showcase winners; New Philadelphia beats Marietta

The Tuscarawas Valley Trojans beat the Strasburg Tigers 46-28 at the Inter-Valley Conference Girls Basketball Showcase on Saturday at Hiland High School.

The IVC South co-champions improved to 18-3 for the year as Ashley Merrick totaled 16 points, while Kadence Stutz added seven points and Locie Levengood tallied six points.

For the IVC North-winning Tigers (17-3), Riley Thomas led the scoring with 10 points, along with seven points each from Madi Becker and Emma Gilkerson.

HILAND 53, FAIRLESS 30

Host Hiland bested Fairless in the final Saturday Showcase game to finish the regular season at 16-6.

The IVC Sout co-champion Hawks were led by Aila Miller’s 14 points, along with 13 points from Ashley Mullet.

The Falcons (9-10) were led by Gracie Ashton’s 10 points.

TUSCARAWAS CENTRAL CATHOLIC 25, GARAWAY 21

In the Showcase’s lowest-scoring affair, the Tuscarawas Central Catholic Saints edged the Garaway Pirates.

The Saints improved their record to 14-5, while the Bucs dropped to 10-10.

CLAYMONT 55, MALVERN 42

Raechelle Miles shouldered most of the Claymont offense with 16 points in the Mustangs’ Showcase win over Malvern.

The Mustangs (10-10) also received 10 points from Bailey Eddleman.

The Hornets (10-10) were led by Maddie Powers’s 19 points, while Lanie Bower added 13 points.

NEW PHILADELPHIA 56, MARIETTA 45

New Philadelphia’s girls basketball team picked up an East Central Ohio League victory over Marietta on Saturday.

Audrey Harr scored a game-high 29 points for the Lady Quakers (15-3), while Ajia Schreffler tallied 18 points and 18 rebounds.

Leigha Laver led the Tigers with 23 points.

WAYNEDALE 49, WEST HOLMES 29

The Golden Bears picked up a non-conference victory over West Holmes on Saturday in Apple Creek.

For West Holmes Kinsey Patterson scored nine points, while Allie McMillen scored seven points.

SALEM 57, CARROLLTON 22

Salem bested the Carrollton girls in a Saturday Eastern Buckeye Conference face-off.

Salem improved to 16-3 overall and 10-3 to stand in a three-way tie atop the EBC rankings.

Carrollton dropped to 10-11 (3-9 EBC).

BOYS BASKETBALL

SANDY VALLEY 64, CARROLLTON 58

Kaiden Mastri’s game-high 28 points boosted Sandy Valley to a Saturday non-conference victory over Carrollton.

Ben Petro also scored 14 points for Sandy (6-12), while Dantae Faiello scored 13 points.

Lincoln Mallarnee led the Warriors (4-14) with 18 points, while Darick Miller added 13 points.

GARAWAY 65, WAYNEDALE 49

Logan Yoder led the Garaway Pirates with 19 points in the Bucs’ Saturday boys’ basketball win over Waynedale in Sugarcreek.

Also among the top scorers for Garaway were Drew Mullet (13 points) and Brady Roden (10 points).

Tey Barkman led the Golden Bears at 18 points.
