Friday night’s opener for newly-renovated Claymont Stadium ended with the Mustangs falling to the Canton South Wildcats, 41-7.

South head coach Matt Dennison returned to Tuscarawas County and dropped four touchdowns on Claymont’s defense in the first half, beginning with Wildcats quarterback Poochie Snyder’s touchdown pass to Akil Martin late in the opening quarter. Early in the 2nd, Snyder found Tavon Castle open to advance the lead to 13-0 (South missed the point after).

After another touchdown to make it 20-0, South scored another touchdown on a receiving score from Tanner Pierce, making the score 27-0 just before halftime.

In the second half, Snyder threw a touchdown to Gavin Moses for a 34-0 lead. Claymont got itself on the board on Brady Rauch’s rushing touchdown in the final quarter, but the Wildcats retaliated for the final score.

Canton South advances to 2-0, while Claymont drops to 0-2

The Mustangs will take on Fairless next Friday.
