A wanted sex offender died by suicide Tuesday after U.S. Marshals attempted to serve a warrant at a home in Canton, authorities told Jordan Miller News.

Canton police said the Marshals were at a residence in the 1100 block of Clarendon Avenue NW when the incident unfolded.

According to officials, a 52-year-old man inside the home had failed to register with his local sheriff. When Marshals attempted to arrest him, he reportedly shot himself. Canton police were called to the scene.

Authorities also confirmed one task force officer fired a weapon during the encounter.

The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation responded and is leading the inquiry. The man’s name has not been released as the investigation remains ongoing.
