A section of State Route 800 south of Stillwater was closed for several hours Wednesday after a two-vehicle crash sent three people to the hospital, authorities said.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol reported the crash occurred late Wednesday morning when a Chevrolet TrailBlazer traveling north crossed into the opposite lane and struck a southbound Buick Regal. Both vehicles left the roadway on the west side following the collision, and the SUV rolled onto its side.
One passenger in the TrailBlazer was thrown from the vehicle, while the driver was trapped inside and had to be removed by emergency responders. Trooper Roy Beach said the extent of the injuries was not immediately available.
The TrailBlazer was driven by a 52-year-old woman from Uhrichsville. She is expected to face a citation for failure to control. She and her passenger, a 33-year-old Uhrichsville woman, were also cited for not wearing seat belts. Both were taken to Mercy Hospital.
Beach said the SUV was traveling at a speed unsafe for conditions, noting the roadway was slick and partially snow-covered at the time of the crash.
The Buick was driven by a 75-year-old woman from Tippecanoe, who was transported to Union Hospital.
Traffic on Route 800 was shut down in both directions for nearly two and a half hours as crews worked the scene. The crash remains under investigation.
