A Beach City woman died after being struck by a vehicle Friday evening on State Route 93 in Stark County, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
Troopers from the Canton Post are investigating the fatal crash, which occurred at 9:46 p.m. March 6 near mile post 10.
According to investigators, 52-year-old Hilda A. Campbell of East Sparta was driving a 2019 Dodge Journey southbound on State Route 93 when her vehicle struck a pedestrian.
The pedestrian, identified as 51-year-old Jovanne M. Wigington of Beach City, was walking southbound in the middle of the southbound lane at the time of the crash, the highway patrol said.
Wigington was transported to Cleveland Clinic Mercy Hospital, where she later died from her injuries.
Campbell was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
The Stark County Sheriff’s Office, North Lawrence Fire and EMS, and Luthi’s Towing assisted at the scene.
Authorities said it is not yet known whether alcohol or drugs were factors in the crash. The incident remains under investigation.
