A Massillon, Ohio, woman was killed and a man was injured in a two-vehicle crash Sunday afternoon on Interstate 169 in western Kentucky.
According to the Christian County Coroner’s Office, 31-year-old Krystin Bowling was traveling northbound when she pulled her vehicle to the side of the interstate to adjust a strap securing totes on the roof of her car. As she attempted to fix the issue, her vehicle was struck by a second car.
Authorities initially believed Bowling had stopped to change a tire but later determined the stop was related to the unsecured totes.
The impact forced the second vehicle off the roadway. Emergency crews performed CPR on Bowling, but she was pronounced dead at the scene.
A male passenger in Bowling’s vehicle was transported by Hopkinsville EMS to Jennie Stuart Health for treatment. His condition has not been released.
An autopsy for Bowling was scheduled for Monday. The northbound lanes of I-169 remained closed until around 5 p.m. as investigators reconstructed the scene.
