A 63-year-old Massillon man was killed Friday night when a train collided with a pickup truck in Canton, authorities said.
Canton police said the crash occurred at about 10:04 p.m. Friday on Maryland Avenue SW near Navarre Road SW. The department’s crash investigation team was activated to investigate the fatal collision involving a train and a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado.
The driver of the pickup, George W. Smith II, 63, of Massillon, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Stark County Coroner’s Office.
Lt. Dennis Garren, a spokesperson for the Canton Police Department, said details surrounding the crash remain under investigation.
Canton Fire Department personnel also responded to the scene.
No additional information was immediately released.
