Stark County 18-year-old charged with murder in Cuyahoga Falls shooting

An 18-year-old Canton man has been charged with murder following a fatal shooting Friday afternoon in Cuyahoga Falls, according to police.

The shooting was reported around 2:15 p.m. June 12 in the 300 block of Aspen Place. Investigators said preliminary information indicates the incident was an isolated domestic-related event involving people who knew one another.

Police said all individuals believed to be involved have been identified and accounted for, and there is no threat to the public.

As the investigation continued Friday evening, authorities announced that the victim, a 35-year-old man, died from gunshot wounds. His identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin by the Summit County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Police arrested Evan William Sampson, 18, of Canton, in connection with the shooting. He has been charged with murder and carrying a concealed weapon.

The Cuyahoga Falls Police Department is leading the investigation with assistance from the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation.
