A man was arrested after a late-night stabbing sparked a manhunt in North Canton on Saturday, police said.
Officers responded just before midnight to the 900 block of Pittsburg Avenue NW, where a suspect reportedly approached a man in the backyard of 903 Pittsburg Ave. NW and stabbed him in the neck with an unknown object, causing severe lacerations, according to the North Canton Police Department. The victim was taken to a hospital for emergency treatment.
A coordinated search effort was launched with assistance from Jackson Township Police and the North Canton Fire Department, which deployed a drone with infrared thermal imaging. Jackson Township Police also brought in a K9 unit to aid in the search.
During the search, police received a report of a man matching the suspect’s description at the Dunkin’ Donuts on Shuffel Street NW. Officers converged on the area and spotted the suspect running north on Pittsburg Avenue.
A Jackson Township officer found the suspect near Mayfair Road and Aultman Road, where he was taken into custody without incident.
Police identified the suspect as 30-year-old Branden N. Grindle, a resident of Heritage Villas. Investigators said he has no known connection to the victim.
Grindle was booked into the Stark County Jail on one count of felonious assault, a second-degree felony.
