Sheriff: Two men dead in apparent Rootstown murder-suicide

Two men are dead following what authorities believe was a murder-suicide Thursday night in Portage County, according to the Portage County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies were dispatched at 10:07 p.m. Jan. 8 after a 911 caller reported a verbal altercation involving a firearm at a residence on Blitz Road in Rootstown Township. Before deputies arrived, a second 911 caller reported that three shots had been fired.

When deputies entered the residence, they found 40-year-old Bradley Goldner and 31-year-old Andrew Carney on the floor with apparent gunshot wounds. A firearm was found between the two men, Sheriff Bruce D. Zuchowski said in a press release.

Life-saving measures were attempted, but both men died from their injuries at the scene.

Detectives believe the case is a murder-suicide. The incident remains under investigation by the Sheriff’s Office Detective Bureau.
