Police recovered at least 26 spent shell casings after a shooting at a Canton park Sunday evening that damaged multiple vehicles and endangered pedestrians and motorists, according to a police report.

Officers were dispatched to Weis Park, 2600 Harvard Ave. NW, at about 7:13 p.m. Sunday after multiple callers reported several people firing guns in the park, according to the Canton Police Department incident report.

Investigators recovered evidence from at least three different firearms, including nine 5.56 shell casings, 10 spent 9mm casings and seven spent .40-caliber casings. Police also recovered a live 9mm round, a live .40-caliber round and a .40-caliber projectile.

According to the police narrative, unknown suspects fired over the parking lot while vehicles and pedestrians were traveling through the area before fleeing on foot. Authorities said the gunfire created a substantial risk of physical harm to anyone nearby and damaged several vehicles.

An initial officer narrative stated dispatchers reported three to four males were involved in the shooting. Officers briefly detained two men seen running east from the area, but no weapons were found and both were released.

No injuries were reported.
