A physical altercation that occurred at the conclusion of Saturday’s Indian Valley boys basketball home game against Watkins Memorial is under investigation, according to local authorities.

The incident happened following the game on Dec. 27 and involved a member of the Watkins Memorial boys basketball coaching staff and a fan, according to video reviewed by Jordan Miller News.

Details surrounding the altercation remain unclear as the investigation is still in its early stages.

Gnaddenhutten Police Chief Dennis Moody said officers arrived shortly after the incident and were met with conflicting accounts of what occurred.

“We’re still investigating,” Moody said. “We need to speak with witnesses and review any available video, including cell phone footage, to get a better understanding of what happened.”

Moody said more information is expected to be available early next week.

Indian Valley Athletic Director Zach Golec described the incident as out of character for events hosted at the school and said the situation is being reviewed internally.

“We take sportsmanship very seriously,” Golec said. “Interscholastic athletics are education-based, and we’re looking into the incident to determine if any additional steps are necessary.”

A request for comment was sent to Watkins Memorial Schools, but no response had been received as of publication.
