One dead in Saturday crash on State Route 172 in Columbiana County

A two-vehicle crash Saturday evening in Columbiana County left one person dead on State Route 172, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Lisbon Post.

Troopers said the crash occurred around 7:46 p.m. near Mile Post 6 in West Township. A 2025 white International semi-truck was traveling east on SR 172 when it went off the right side of the road, overcorrected, and crossed the center line, striking a westbound 2021 Ford Bronco.

The semi-truck continued eastbound off the north side of the roadway and overturned. The Ford Bronco also went off the north side of the road and overturned.

The driver of the semi-truck was taken by EMS to Mercy Hospital in Canton with non-life-threatening injuries. The passenger in the Ford Bronco was also transported to Mercy Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Bronco was pronounced dead at the scene.

Troopers said drugs and alcohol do not appear to be factors in the crash, which remains under investigation.

Responding agencies included the Sandy Creek Fire Department, North Georgetown Fire Department, Ohio Department of Natural Resources, Columbiana County Coroner’s Office, Ohio Department of Transportation, Prendergast Towing and Gobel’s Towing.
