Authorities will hold a press conference Friday to provide new information on a deadly shooting at an Airbnb rental home earlier this month that left an 18-year-old man dead and several others injured.

Elijah Wells, of Akron, died Nov. 6 at Cleveland Clinic Akron General Medical Center, four days after he was shot multiple times during a birthday party at a residence in the 900 block of Top O Hill Drive. The Summit County Medical Examiner’s Office ruled his death a homicide.

Bath Township Police said a large crowd of juveniles and young adults had gathered at the Airbnb-rented home shortly after midnight on Nov. 2 when multiple shots were fired inside the residence. Several victims — police have not released the number of those injured or their conditions — were struck by gunfire.

Police Chief Vito Sinopoli said the party had been promoted on social media, drawing a large group before chaos erupted. No arrests have been announced, and investigators are still working to determine what led to the shooting.

Responding agencies included Bath Township Police, Akron Police, the Summit County Sheriff’s Office, and police departments from Copley, Fairlawn and Richfield Village, along with several area fire departments. The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation is assisting.

In a media advisory, officials said Chief Sinopoli and Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost will deliver updates during a press conference scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 21, at the Bath Township Trustee Meeting Room, 3864 West Bath Road in Akron. Members of the media are encouraged to arrive early.

Anyone with information about the shooting is urged to contact the Bath Township Police Department Detective Bureau at 330-666-3736.
