Drivers traveling through parts of eastern Ohio should expect temporary traffic disruptions Thursday afternoon as a massive super load moves through the region, transportation officials said.

According to the Ohio Department of Transportation District 11, portions of U.S. 30 from Minerva to Lisbon will be temporarily shut down in spurts to allow the oversized load to pass safely. The load is traveling east on U.S. 30 before heading south on State Route 45 toward Wellsville.

ODOT District 11 Public Information Officer Lauren Borell said the load is being transported to Wellsville, where it will be moved to the river and loaded onto a vessel to continue its journey overseas — ultimately destined for India.

Because of the size of the load, traffic will be stopped intermittently as crews work to safely move it through the corridor. Borell said the transport will require traffic signals to be temporarily disconnected along the route to allow the super load to make certain turns.

Motorists are urged to use caution, expect delays and consider alternate routes while the transport is underway. ODOT said law enforcement and traffic crews will be assisting with traffic control throughout the move.

No estimated time was immediately available for when the transport will clear the area, and drivers are advised to remain alert as conditions may change.
