Motorcyclist seriously injured in early morning I-77 crash

A motorcyclist was seriously injured in a crash involving a semi-truck early Wednesday morning on Interstate 77 in Stark County.

The crash happened just before 6 a.m. on I-77 northbound near Exit 109, the Belden Village/Whipple Avenue exit in Plain Township, according to an official with the Stark County Sheriff’s Office.

The sheriff’s office said the motorcycle rear-ended the semi-truck.

The motorcyclist suffered serious injuries and was taken to Mercy Hospital for treatment. The crash was not fatal, according to the sheriff’s office.

Traffic on I-77 northbound backed up toward U.S. Route 62 following the crash before the roadway was reopened.
